I hope everyone enjoyed last Saturday, for it was the last free Saturday we’ll have for a couple of months. Band. Band. And more band are about to devour life.
Competition season begins this Saturday at the Bluffton invitational. Our musicians have worked hard on part one, two, and three of the show A Thousand Cranes. The guard has worked equally hard on the dance and twirling and tossing their flags.
The lunch menu is set, and the needed food has been promised. Locker decorations wait to be hung. The first banner waits to be hung in the band room.
If you haven’t stopped by a practice and seen or heard the show, you are in for a treat. That opening hit will get you. The soloist sounds amazing. The steps are there, the music ready to mesmerize the crowd. The guard will flutter into your hearts.
All that’s left is to support them.
As the Spirit of Woodlan steps onto the field, we cheer.
For those who don’t know, or might not remember…we have a chant…
Cheer leader: Give me a W.
Woodlan fans: W
CL: Give me an O
WF: O
CL: Give me another O
WF: O
CL: Give me a D
WF: D
CL: Give me an L
WF: L
CL: Give me an A
WF: A
CL: Give me an N
WF: N
CL: What does that spell?
WF: WOODLAN
CL: What do we have?
WF: SPIRIT
CL: WHO ARE WE?
WF: SPIRIT OF WOODLAN
And cue screaming.
Has the cheer leader been chosen? I HOPE SO!
The show isn’t quite complete, there’s still part four to add! Platforms have been built, and the pit crew waits to learn their part to get them on the field. A giant crane will eventually join the performance. And we’re waiting for guard uniforms.
But with details waiting to be completed, we begin. Bluffton is the beginning, where we start laying the foundation for a show that will take us to state. (Of course, it will!) The first folds in our origami wish will be made. The itinerary is set and has been sent to everyone. Are you going to be there?
I am.
