After competing together with Winter Percussion last winter season, Woodlan's Winter Guard returned to competing with Indiana High School Color Guard Association this past weekend. They have been working hard at rehearsals to prepare for competition season.
As I personally will not be traveling with the color guard this season (I serve on the pit crew for Winter Winds), I reached out to Jennifer Spencer and asked for her help in providing pictures and stories for the blog each week to make sure Winter Guard was represented here.
At practice last week, they learned a new way to fold the tarp to make it easier to unfold at competition. The color guard arrived early Saturday morning for a quick practice to work out some last minute changes. Nerves seemed to be under control, especially when they all screamed "TURNING LEFT!" as the bus took its first left turn to head towards Highway 24! They didn't waste any time teaching the newbies a beloved band and color guard tradition!
For their first week of competition, Winter Guard headed to Snider High School to compete in the Festival Class with 11 other schools, including New Haven High School and Leo High School. They brought home a Silver placing.
The results in the Festival Class were:
New Haven (Bronze), New Castle JV (Silver), Adams Central (Silver), Woodlan (Silver), Bishop Dwenger (Gold), Huntington North (Silver), Goshen JV (Gold), Elkhart JV (Gold), Leo (Silver), Manchester (Silver), Fairfield JV (Gold), Concord JV (Silver). Gold Ratings were given for scores 52.00 and above, Silver ratings were for scores 37.01 to 51.99.
