Winter Winds Competes at Plainfield and Winter Program Senior Banners Unveiled

The members of Woodlan Winter Winds had quite the early morning this last Saturday, February 18th. They had a 6:45am arrival time at school to load the trailers and get ready for their day. After loading the trailers, they were served a breakfast of croissant sandwiches, breakfast pizza, muffins, gogurts, and Sunny D. They loaded the bus and headed for Plainfield High School, just southwest of Indianapolis.

After arriving at Plainfield, the students helped the pit crew unload the trailers and then changed into uniforms. Winter Winds gave a strong performance and made some fun new changes to the show this week (looking at you, Caitlyn and Sam throwing papers at Colton!). Many members agreed that this week’s performance felt better than the week before, though many felt it did lack energy.

STRIKE!!

Bella was sick all week and lost her voice, so she was happy to squeak out her vocal solo. In warmups, she couldn't get half the notes to come out!

This part was reworked this week and turned out great!

There was a large time gap between Woodlan’s performance and Awards, so the entire group did not stay for awards. A few students planned to stay overnight to play in the IU pep band the following day for the women’s basketball game, so they represented Woodlan in the awards ceremony. When the placements were announced, Woodlan received a participation award, as they did not place in the top 5 spots. After scores were announced, Woodlan ended up in 6th place out of 7 groups. The rankings in Winds Scholastic A were:

1. Kokomo Indoor Winds

2. Lake Central Winds

3. Ben Davis Winter Winds

4. Washington Winds

5. Owen Valley Indoor

6. Woodlan Winter Winds

7. Clay City Winter Winds

Winter Winds returned to practices this week and will focus on adding the closer to the show. They will have this upcoming weekend off from competition, so they will have 2 full weeks of practices before they compete next on March 4th. For that competition, they will be performing in the Winter Guard International (WGI) Indianapolis Regional at Greenfield Central High School. Times will be posted when they become available.

Winter Guard returns to competition this upcoming weekend at the IHSCGA Contest at Carroll High School. They will be performing along with 13 other groups in the Festival Class, which begins at 10:00am with New Haven Winter Guard and concludes at 11:31am with Concord Junior Varsity. Woodlan Winter Guard will perform at 11:03 am. Awards are at 2:24pm. They would love to have your support at Carroll!

This week, the Senior members of both Winter Winds and Winter Guard were able to see their senior banners hanging in the band room for the first time. They all turned out great! Come check them out sometime and lend your support to our fantastic winter groups!
